My Approach & Modalities

When we work together, sessions are tailored to each client as a unique and multi-layered individual, drawing from the wisdom of listening presence and a blend of effective modalities including somatic therapy, Swedish massage, myofascial release, trigger-point therapy, Trager, and Craniosacral therapy. Additionally, through my studies as a Qigong instructor, I incorporate traditional Chinese medicine principles and energetic awareness including work with the meridian systems, acupressure points, and the breath.

My approach allows the body and nervous system to feel safe and welcomed to open to meaningful healing and wellbeing, celebrating the rich and subtle terrain held within the depths of our beings. By offering the space and safety of presence instead of forcing change, the tissues can unwind from the inside out. Here we invite the nervous system to open to a new way of holding the structure of the body and carrying your spirit. Here we invite a coming home to oneself.

Somatic therapy is a form of body-centered therapy that looks at the connection of mind and body and uses both psycotherapy and physical therapies for holistic healing. This approach sees thought, emotions, and sensations as deeply interconnected.

Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The use of gentle pressure allows the tissues to unwind in a way can allow for more lasting change than some more aggressive approaches because we are working in concert with the nervous system.

Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams – about the weight of a nickel – practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. Craniosacral Therapy is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and it’s effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

The Trager Approach invites feelings of greater openness, ease, and integration throughout the body system, exploring the mind-body connection through gentle touch. This approach can enhance flexibility, stability, and freedom, supporting the release of habitual holding patterns in the mind and body

Swedish Massage is a relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, and greater flexibility.

This therapeutic method involves the identification of and release of “trigger points”, a common cause of pain in the body. Trigger points often show up as painful “knots” in our muscles and can cause referred pain and/or stiffness.

Translating as “life-energy cultivation”, Qigong dates back over 4,000 years to ancient China. Traditional Chinese Medicine reveres Qigong for its efficacy in preventive and curative functions. Qigong traditionally combines and coordinates movement, breath, and intention. I personally find this practice both profoundly grounding and energizing, like a coming home to my true essence of being. I love incorporating elements of Qigong into sessions, as well as more extensive teaching.

Through my studies as a Qigong instructor, I have become acquainted with the meridian systems of the body and key acupressure points as described by Traditional Chinese Medicine. Each meridian is associated with a respective organ system with corresponding physiological and energetic functions. This tradition honors the interconnected nature of our multi-layered being and is a powerful ally in healing.

Many people are not adequately compensated for their work or have other financial stressors that make regular massage feel out of reach. Likewise, some clients may be able to afford more and are willing to pay a premium to help offset discounts for other clients. The sliding scale below is designed to honor both situations.
